Mata Amritanandamayi’s Life Is a ‘Shower of Compassion’, Says Amit Shah at Viswa Seva Day

Kollam: Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Mata Amritanandamayi’s life as a “shower of compassion” and said her humanitarian activities have helped bring people together through love and compassion.

Shah was speaking after inaugurating the Viswa Seva Day celebrations at Amritapuri in Kollam. According to Shah, the humanitarian activities associated with Mata Amritanandamayi extend beyond a single location and provide support to people in different parts of the world.

A ₹20-crore medical assistance programme being implemented through Amrita Hospitals in Kochi and Faridabad was also launched at the event. Under the initiative, 1,000 patients will receive specialised treatment free of cost.

The Mata Amritanandamayi Math also handed over ₹2 crore in financial assistance for flood relief activities in Assam. The amount was presented to Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu.

The Amrita Keerthi Award for this year was presented to advocate P.S. Sreedharan Pillai by Amit Shah. The award carries a cash prize of ₹1,23,456, a Saraswati sculpture designed by artist Namboothiri, and a citation.

Several ministers, MPs, MLAs and political leaders attended the function. Devotees and visitors from different parts of the country and abroad also attended the two-day Viswa Seva Day celebrations at Amritapuri.

Meditation, bhajans and darshan led by Mata Amritanandamayi were held following the inaugural ceremony. The celebrations were scheduled to continue on September 27, Mata Amritanandamayi’s birthday, with Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan scheduled to attend.
