BMC Suspends 19,734 Birth Correction Entries in Mumbai Over Missing Documents; October 30 Verification Deadline
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suspended 19,734 birth-correction entries made between 2024 and 2026 after scrutiny found that required documents were missing or incomplete.
The civic body has directed affected citizens to submit their application, old birth certificate and valid supporting documents at their respective BMC ward offices by October 30, 2026, for verification.
According to the BMC, the suspension applies to correction entries recorded in its earlier SAP system.
The civic body has clarified that the original birth records remain unchanged and that the suspension concerns the correction entries for which supporting documentation was found to be inadequate.
The BMC has also notified affected citizens through letters and uploaded the list of the 19,734 entries on its website under the heading “Birth Correction Data 2024 to 2026.”
Citizens whose entries appear on the list have been asked to approach the concerned ward office with the necessary documents within the stipulated deadline.
Following verification, fresh QR-coded birth certificates will be issued through the Civil Registration System (CRS), according to the civic body.
A BMC official said the earlier SAP system is no longer being used for registrations, with birth registrations and related processes now being handled through the CRS.
The verification exercise has been initiated to provide affected citizens an opportunity to submit the required documents and establish the validity of their corrections.
Citizens whose birth-correction entries have been suspended are therefore required to complete the verification process before October 30 to avoid delays in obtaining their updated certificates.
