Indian shooters Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Cheani qualified for the four-team final of the mixed trap event at the Asian Games 2026 in Japan on Wednesday.

The Indian pair secured their place in the title clash with a combined score of 136, finishing behind China, Qatar and Iran. The final is scheduled for 11 am IST, according to ESPN.

Neeru, who won the women’s individual trap gold medal on Tuesday, continued her strong run in the competition. She became the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games gold in trap shooting after topping both the qualification round and the final.

Competing in rainy conditions, Neeru finished first in the eight-shooter final with 26 points, according to ESPN. China’s Sun Yunong and Kuwait’s Hajar Abdulmalik finished joint second with 21 points, while Qatar’s Ray Bassil was fourth with 16.

Neeru also set an Asian record in qualification on her Asian Games debut, missing just two shots out of 30 to finish with 28 points.

Earlier on Tuesday, Neeru won a silver medal in the women’s trap team event alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. India finished with 328 points, behind gold medallists China (346), while Kuwait won bronze with 325. Neeru was India’s top performer in the team event, scoring 118 out of 125.

India also added a seventh gold medal to its tally on Wednesday after Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 in the women’s compound team archery final.

The Indian trio equalled the world record of 238 set by South Korea in 2014. The victory gave Jyothi her fourth Asian Games gold, while Chikitha and Prithika won their maiden Asiad gold medals.

India’s overall medal tally now stands at 53, comprising seven gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze medals.
